Committees are the backbone of ACEC New York, through which much of the work gets done–work that affects all aspects of the engineering profession, from legislative advocacy to environmental issues.

However, committees offer more than a significant opportunity to impact the professional environment:

Committee work is highly educational and interactive.
Members share information that can improve their business practices and help make their firms more profitable and successful.
Committee involvement is a great way to get to know people throughout the entire organization -- and to give something back to the profession as a whole.

There is an ACEC New York committee for virtually every interest, and each one is important.  The chart below illustrates ACEC New York’s organizational structure and committees.  Requests to serve on committees go out yearly to principals of ACEC New York member firms.  A positive response is all it takes to get involved.  In an organization such as ACEC New York, the more an individual puts into it, the more he/she gets out of it, and committees are a great way to make a contribution.

In addition to statewide committees, some regions have committees specifically structured to work on local or specific issues.  Members can select the committees they wish to work on -- state or local.
