Western Region: Allegheny, Cattaraugus, Chautaugua, Erie, Niagara and Wyoming Counties

The Western Region strives to bring the statewide legislative agenda to its members. The region's January legislative reception is a major legislative breakfast, to which local legislative delegations, including state and federal representatives, are invited. The event is important and well attended, and provides an opportunity for engineers to speak with legislators about their issues. The region also monitors transportation dollars to make sure they are spent in the region.

Special projects include working to increase the activities of the region's local liaison committees. The region is also dedicated to encouraging young people to pursue careers in engineering. Activities include underwriting a $2,500 ACEC New York scholarship, and sponsoring a "Future Cities" award, part of an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) program for kids.

The Western Region holds nine meetings a year, all of which are breakfast membership meetings.  In addition to the January meeting, described above, in June the region holds a regional Engineering Excellence celebration, a black-tie dinner dance for member firms and clients.  The other seven membership meetings comprise a mix of business and technical presentations by guest speakers, including heads of client agencies, experts on business and technical issues, and other leaders.
